It is sad that the Contra Costa County Alcohol and other Drugs Advisory Board came out against Proposition 19, a conservative measure that legalizes responsible adult use of cannabis.

Swim and paddle: More than 1,000 swimmers of all ages are expected to take part in the 81st Annual Oceanside Labor Day Pier Swim and Paddle on Sept. 6. The first race begins at 8 a.m. at the beach on the south side of Oceanside Pier. Registration: oceansideswimclub.com or (760) 435-1031. Registration is also open the morning of the event at 6:30 a.m.

* The White River Valley High School Junior Post Prom Parents for the class of 2012 is asking for your support. A basket bingo -- which will raise money for post prom -- is planned for Nov. 11 and is in need of money donations from individuals and businesses for the purchase of baskets.
